Newsletter – April 2019

Welcome back

As we return to enter the final and probably busiest time of the year I would like to bring you up to date with a few events and dates that you will need to know. We welcome Miss O’Neil who is a student teacher and will be working alongside Mrs Hailstone with the children. We hope she has a fabulous teaching practice.

Sponsored event

Our sponsored water carry raised £164.50 for our partner schools in Sierra Leone. Thank you to all of the children who took part and the adults who supported them and raised money for the event.

SATS and testing

Year 2 testing will take place throughout May. Please ensure that your child attends school during this period so that they are able to access these tests.

Year 6 testing will take place w/c 13th May. Again, please ensure that your child attends school every day. These tests can only be taken on the day stipulated by the DfE.

Phonics screening for Year 1 pupils will take place during the week commencing 10th June.

New build

The extension to the school will be starting this term. This is a very exciting time for us as we plan to bring the Foundation Stage children into the main school building in a purpose built classroom. As the building develops there may be some adjustments as to entry points to the school etc. However, we will inform everyone of any changes as they happen through Parent Hub.

Screen time for children

Advice and guidance has been released around the screen time for children and how to ensure that this is appropriate. More information can be found by searching online.

Parent Hub

Parent Hub is our new way of communicating with parents/carers. We would encourage all Parents/Carers to download the App. Feedback has been very positive so far.

Car park

Can I please remind all parents that the car park is not a drop off and collection point at any part of the day, including for after school clubs. The car park is strictly for staff and visitors only. Please park on the street and collect your child from the school on foot. The use of this car park is causing a risk to the children of the school and you will be asked to move your vehicle.

Curriculum

Our theme this term is “Extreme Nature” and your children will be bringing home their curriculum newsletters very soon. All of the information is available on our website. If you have any questions or can help with our topic in any way please do not hesitate to contact us.

Wake up and Shake up

Wake up and Shake up has been extremely successful. We have had on average 40 children attending the sessions which run Tuesday to Thursday. We plan to continue this into this term and look forward to seeing all of the children there from 8.40am.

Gymnastics Club

We have been lucky enough to secure a gymnastics and dance teacher for the children on a Wednesday afternoon. She will be running an after school gymnastics club from 3.30 to 4.30 every Wednesday evening. This is for both KS1 and KS2 children.

Christian Distinctiveness

Our themes this term are friendship and respect. We will continue to work closely with St Lawrence and our leavers’ service will be held at the church this year.

Our Easter service was very well attended and the children were a credit to the school. Their wide range of performances, songs and poems made the service a wonderful experience for all. Thank you to Rev Andy and Rev Mo who continue to support us during our Collective Worship meetings in school.

Extra-Curricular Activities

For the next half term the timetable for after school club is as follows:
Monday – Arts and Crafts
Tuesday – Science investigations
Wednesday – Food and Cooking
Thursday – Sports and games
Friday – Movie night

Please remember we also have:
Monday – Dance
Tuesday – Drama (small charge)
Wednesday – Gymnastics
Friday – Sport/PE

If you would like your child to take part in any of these clubs please see Mrs Conlon to register a place.

Uniform

We are planning to have a uniform sale in late June. The idea is that all used but as new uniform that has been donated will be sold for pupils to use the following year. If you have any donations please bring them to the office by 14th June.

Pupil admissions

We currently have vacancies for pupils and are keen to increase our numbers slightly. If you know of anyone who is looking for a place for their child, please do encourage them to make an appointment and visit the school to see the wonderful things that are happening here.

Bottle tops

We are still collecting clean bottle tops and would like you to send as many as you can collect into school. Please get grandparents, aunties, and uncles collecting. We need lots and lots!!

Competition time

We are having a competition this term for the children to design either a cushion or a story sack for the revamped reflection area that you will see start to develop in the next few months. More details to follow.
