Newsletter – April 2018

Welcome back

Wow, the beginning of the Summer term! This year has gone by so quickly and we have achieved great things. We welcome Raphael to our school this term.

Curriculum

Our theme this term is “Where in the World?” and your children will be bringing home their curriculum newsletters very soon. All of the information is on our website along with our new film that has been kindly created by Ebor for us, it is well worth a look.

Attendance

The attendance winner for the Spring term is Year 3.

Church Distinctiveness

The Year 5 and 6 pupils enjoyed their trip to York Minster as part of our continued work with the diocese. They enjoyed the opportunity to explore the Minster and learn about its history, discovering many fascinating facts.

The Year 3 and 4 children enjoyed a visit to Skirlaugh recently to take part in a RE morning focussing on Easter. The children had a fabulous time and were a credit to our school.

The children will be exploring the core values of Service and Truthfulness this term during Collective Worship and reflection.

Tour de Yorkshire

The Tour will pass through Sigglesthorne on Thursday 3rd May. We are currently seeking volunteers to take the children to watch the event and any old bikes that we could decorate. A letter has already been sent home with more details.

We are also seeking donations of old blue and yellow clothing or wool so that we can make some pom pom decorations.

Extra-Curricular Activities

It is fabulous to see so many children taking advantage of the sports activities available after school. There are still places available if you would like your child to take part. Please see Mrs Conlon in the office.

Drama club is becoming increasingly popular too, which is fabulous. This continues to be at a small charge of £2.50. If you would like to enrol your child please see Mrs Conlon in the office.

After School Club and Breakfast Club continue to be popular at a small charge per session.

All of the clubs above finish at 4.30 pm and dance ends at 4.45 pm.  We would be very grateful if you could collect your child promptly. Unfortunately, we no longer have the capacity to transfer pupils from these clubs to After School Club until 5.00 pm without prior arrangement, as this is also very popular and often full. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Car Park

It has been brought to my attention that there have been some safety issues with parents using the staff car park, especially when collecting children at the end of the after-school activities. We request that, if you feel the need to pull into the car park, you do so slowly and carefully and that all children are supervised closely as they leave the building. Thank you for your cooperation.

Foundation Unit

If anyone has an old sink or microwave that they no longer require, please could we have them as we are developing a mud kitchen in the Foundation Unit.

PTFA

The PTFA will be holding a meeting on Tuesday 24 April at 3.30 pm in school.

Teacher Tracker

Based on the recommendation of the academy, the school will be using teacher tracker from the beginning of this term. The staff will be filming themselves and the children to develop and enhance their teaching skills. This will be used for professional development only and the files will only be viewed by professionals within the Ebor Academy. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Grant.

Operation Encompass

Sigglesthorne will be taking part in Operation Encompass. It is a unique Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership, which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous evening.

The information is given in strict confidence to a school’s Key Adult to enable support to be given dependent on the needs and wishes of the child. The key adults in our school are Mrs J Grant or Mrs Conlon.

Twitter and Facebook

As well as our Twitter feed at @SiggsCEPrimary we have a new facebook account which is Sigglesthorne CE Primary Academy.  We will be using social media to share information and to celebrate the learning achievements and good practice within the school. Please feel free to place your comments!

Recycling

A suggestion we have received is that we recycle prewashed nearly new uniform to sell at a small cost to raise funds for the PTFA. We think this is a great idea and therefore donations of outgrown uniform will be gratefully received.
