Newsletter – September 2018

Welcome back

A huge welcome back to school. I hope you had a fabulous summer holiday and are now ready to get back into routine. We welcome Jakub, Sophia and Marcellus to our Sigglesthorne family. We hope they have a long and happy time at Sigglesthorne.

Curriculum

Our theme this term is “Great and Ghastly Events” and your children will be bringing home their curriculum newsletters very soon. All of the information is available on our website. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Christian Distinctiveness

Our themes this term are generosity and compassion.

New Foundation Unit

During the holiday, we had some fabulous news in that the planning permission for our new Foundation Unit was approved. We are now currently in discussions with the Ebor Central Team as to when the building work can commence but I will keep you all informed as I find out dates and timescales. This is wonderful news for our school in that we can have the Foundation Children in the main school building and both Foundation stage and Key Stage One can work closely together to provide the best education for your children. This also means that we can accommodate more children in the Foundation Unit.

Harvest Festival

We will be collecting donations of non-perishable good for the Hornsea Food Bank the week of the Harvest Festival. All donations can be sent into school with your child.

Extra-Curricular Activities

It is fabulous to see so many children taking advantage of the sports activities available after school. There are still places available if you would like your child to take part.

Drama club is becoming increasingly popular too, which is fabulous. This continues to be at a small charge of £3.00.

After School Club continues to be popular at a small charge of £3.00 per session.

For the next half term the timetable for after school club is as follows:

  • Monday – Arts and Crafts
  • Tuesday – Science investigations
  • Wednesday – Food and Cooking
  • Thursday – Sports and games
  • Friday – Movie night

If you would like your child to attend any of the after school activities please see Mrs Conlon in the office to book a place.

Breakfast Club is still available and again this is a small charge of £2.50 per session.

Uniform

Uniform without a label continues to be an issue in school. Please ensure that your child’s clothing is clearly labelled and then we can quickly return any lost property to the rightful owner.

PTFA

The PTFA are busy organising lots of events for you and your child over the coming year. They are always looking for new members who would like to support events and help out.

They have arranged to sell tea and coffee between 8.45 and 9am on a Friday while the parents wait for our Celebration Assembly to begin. Please pop along early and have a cup of coffee and a chat before the assembly begins.

The PTFA has also agreed to support us with developing the before and after school club environment so that it is a little more like home from home and less like a classroom setting. This will also be used as a less formal intervention room so all of the children will benefit from the money being spent. Thank you for all of your help and support with raising money for the children.

Parents’ Evening

We have decided to try something a little different this year by holding the first consultation evening a little later when your child has had a full learning cycle with us and we can give you more secure guidance on how to support your child and areas that are presenting for development. We understand that parent may have questions and things they would like to discuss before this date. So we have arrange a meet the teacher between 3pm and 4pm on Wednesday 19th September. You are welcome to come and meet your child’s teacher for an informal chat about how they have settled and see your child in the classroom. We will then hold a parent consultation evening on Tuesday 20th November 3.30 – 6pm. If you have any questions or concerns before this date, as always, the door is always open and staff are available at the end of the day.

Pupil admissions

We currently have vacancies for pupils and are keen to increase our numbers slightly. If you know of anyone who is looking for a place for their child, please do encourage them to make an appointment and visit the school to see the wonderful things that are happening here.
