Newsletter – January 2019

Welcome back

Welcome back to the new term and we hope that 2019 will bring you lots of luck and happiness. We welcome Olly, Annie, Theo, Alfie, and Isla to our Sigglesthorne family this term and wish them a long and happy primary school experience with us. We are sure that they and their family will be made to feel extremely welcome by everyone.

The end of the autumn term was extremely busy but we had a fabulous time. Thank you for all of your support with the nativity, carol concert, Christmas fair, parties and all of the other things that we packed into the last two weeks of the term.

Site safety – Important

We continually review our policies and procedures to ensure that we are always providing the best experience and safety for our children. Therefore, with immediate effect our school gates will not open until 8.40am. This ensures that we can offer supervision for all children all of the time they are on site.

Safeguarding

We strive to ensure that all of our children are safe and happy and enjoy their childhood. This is just a quick reminder that if you ever have any concerns about a child in our school our school safeguarding designated officers are Mrs Grant and Mrs Conlon. Our safeguarding Governor is Mr Whitehead. Or you can call the referral straight to the Early Help and Safeguarding Hub (EHaSH) on 01482 395500. We are also part of Operation Encompass. More information at www.operationencompass.org. If you require any more information regarding our safeguarding policy and procedure please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Grant.

Curriculum

Our theme this term is “On the move” and your children will be bringing home their curriculum newsletters very soon. All of the information is available on our website. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Wake up and Shake up

On returning in January we are planning to carry out a ‘wake up and shake up’ every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning at 8.40 am. This is an opportunity for the children to have 15 minutes exercise before the start of school. Research suggests that children perform better at school when starting with exercise. Let’s see if we can prove this. All year groups welcome. This will begin on Tuesday 15th January.

Christian Distinctiveness

Our themes this term are courage and forgiveness. We have a planned day in the term to work with Riston and Skirlaugh and more details will follow closer to the date.

Chocolate donations

A huge thank you to all parents that contributed a chocolate donation for our ‘Christmas jumper day’. The donation was boxed up and taken to the Park Care home in Hornsea. The residents and staff were extremely grateful and we spread some festive cheer of our own.

Extra-Curricular Activities

It is fabulous to see so many children taking advantage of the sports activities available after school. There are still places available if you would like your child to take part.

Drama club is becoming increasingly popular too, which is fabulous. Their Christmas performance was spectacular. This continues to be at a small charge of £3.00.

After School Club continues to be popular at a small charge of £3.00 per session.

For the next half term the timetable for after school club is as follows:

Monday – Arts and Crafts
Tuesday – Science investigations
Wednesday – Food and Cooking
Thursday – Sports and games
Friday – Movie night

If you would like your child to attend any of the after school activities please see Mrs Conlon in the office to book a place.

Breakfast Club is still available and again this is a small charge of £2.50 per session and includes a breakfast for the children.

Uniform

Uniform without a label continues to be an issue in school. Please ensure that your child’s clothing is clearly labelled and then we can quickly return any lost property to the rightful owner.

Pupil admissions

We currently have vacancies for pupils and are keen to increase our numbers slightly. If you know of anyone who is looking for a place for their child, please do encourage them to make an appointment and visit the school to see the wonderful things that are happening here.
